#Hogwarts Roleplay Rules#

The following rules apply within every “In Character” room within #H#ogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry, it also applies to London, Diagon Alley, Hogsmeade and any other environs affiliated with the school.

Guide:

Green: The first block of text is a basic explanation of the rule.

This is then followed by a larger block of text that will further explain how the rule works and possibly the reasons for that rule beingin place.

Orange: There then may be an example to do with the rule that will appear underneath in orange.

Terminology:

In Character: In character or IC is when you are acting and playing the role of your current roleplay character, thus meaning you think, act, say and exist as your character.

Out of Character: Out of character or OOC is when you do not act as your character would, this means you would respond how your real life self would not your IC self, OOC information can not be used IC.

Void: When something is void it means it is not in compliance with the rules set out either by our schools roleplay rules or existing rules that where detailed in the Harry Potter book series.

Part One; Word Count

You must use a minimum of three words per action line.

In this roleplay you must use a minimum of three words per action line, an action line is a line in which your character performs some kind of action, action lines are used during, casting spells, moving items, or performing just about any kind of action.

Below are some examples of action lines;

-laughs softly at this now-
*grins as you speak*
*spins down my wand to my right hand*
-mops the floor-
*hits you hard*
-smiles at you-

You must use either ** or -- to show you are performing an action

In order to show that you are performing an action within this roleplay you must put either a * or a - at the end of the roleplay line.

We only allow these symbols as it makes it easy to tell whether the line is speech or an action.

Some examples of valid lines;

*flicks down wand*
-draws my wand-
-bites into the apple-
*bites gently on my lip*
*slaps him across the face*
-pushes them away from me-

Part Three; Performing Spells

You need to aim, say the spell correctly and roleplay it hitting for a spell not to be void.

To roleplay a spell you must have a wand in your hand, you then have to aim at the target of your spell, you must then use the correct spelling of the spell in order for it to work. You then have to roleplay the spell hitting the target.

You can also add another line after the spell hits to describe what it does, as seen in blue below.

Below is an example of a spell working;

*aims down at the book*
Incendio
*hits the book hard now*

*the book starts to burn now*

Part Four; Defending Against Spells

If you move out of the way of a spell, before it has been cast, or before it hits you the spell does not hit you.

If you use the spell Protego, before the spell has been cast, or before it hits you the spell doesn't hit you.

You do not need to roleplay performing Protego, merely have a wand in your hand and then spell the spell correctly.

It takes three lines after casting Protego to send the spell back at the caster.

When defending against a spell you must use three words per action line, one way of doing this is to dodge the spell. You can dodge before the spell has been cast, or before it hits you.

Dodging before the spell is cast;

*aims at Jimmy*
-ducks out of the way now-
Stupefy

The spell would not hit you in this case.

Dodging before the spell hits you;

*aims at Jimmy*
Incendio

-ducks under the spell now-
*it hits you hard now*

The spell would not hit you in this case.

Another way to defend against a spell being cast is the spell Protego, this shield charm can be used to block most spells. You can cast Protego before the spell is cast or before the spell hits you. To cast Protego you don't need to roleplay doing the spell, just have a wand in your hand and say the spell right.

Examples of valid protegos;

Using Protego before the spell is cast;

*aims at Jimmy*
Protego
Stupefy

The spell would not hit you in this case.

Using Protego before the spell hits you;

*aims at Jimmy*
Incendio

Protego
*it hits you hard now*

The spell would not hit you in this case.

You can also use Protego to send the spell back at the person who attacked you, to do this you must do three lines after you have said Protego. See below for how to do this.

*aims at Jimmy*

Protego
-it hits my shield now-
-flies back towards you now-
-hits you hard now-

Part Five; Defences

Defences must not be unbreakable, and may take a maximum of 150 lines to break in

Defences for building within this roleplay must not be impossible to break into, and they must also be able to be broken within 150 valid action lines.
